Wedding Photographer at Manchester Town Hall

It was a total pleasure to be invited to photograph the wonderful wedding of Tingyan and Xiaolong at the Town Hall. One of Manchester’s iconic venues, not just for weddings, but a building that stands proud in Albert Square that everyone recognises. A complete joy to shoot a wedding at. The architecture is something else and that little bit extra special. This was only a small wedding, without a meal, first dance, or evening party, so I was only needed for a few hours. This was my first visit at this venue since Helen & Tom’s wedding last year.

The day started for me with Tingyan at The Midland Hotel which is only just around the corner from Manchester Town Hall. All Tingyan’s girly friends helped her with her hair and make-up. Some lovely moments of good friends spending time together. It was then dress-on time and the time to head over to be married to Xiaolong. Some of my favourite shots to capture are those natural ones of a bride or guests just walking and that’s what I loved about this moment. The city backdrop was just perfect.

Wedding ceremony and reception drinks

I think my favourite photo of the day is the girls messing with Tingyan’s dress on the steps outside the Town Hall. I decided to use the reflection in the window of the front doors to feature more of this incredible building. The colours that come through are so good too. Walking up the famous staircase was a moment not to be missed. What a back-drop, shooting wide to get the entire scene into the photos told the story how I wanted to. It was then time to walk down the isle. Because the couple were from China, and many family members were unable to make it over for the marriage and ceremony, their university professors walked them down the isle and signed the register. So meaningful to them. They will be having a much bigger wedding in China later in the year, far far away from Manchester’s Town Hall.

After the ceremony is was a short jump over to the next room for drinks at their reception. The newly -weds wanted some confetti thrown outside on the iconic steps, everyone had so much fun. At this point, we headed back into Manchester Town Hall for some spectacular photos of them together. just relaxed and comfortable without any forced posing. After this we did some more couples photos near the central library and a fun time jumping in a black cab and heading over to Castlefield for more.

What a great day, a short one but so lovely to be part of something so special. Here are just a few of my favourite photos from their wedding day. A big thank you to Ryan Rafferty for assisting me on the day.
